Another State Murder: The Suspicious Death of Ali Hashemi, an 18-Year-Old Detained in Dey, in Isfahan's Dastgerd Prison

Ali Hashemi, an 18-year-old who had been arrested in Dey 1404 (January 2026) during Iran's Lion and Sun National Revolution, died suspiciously in an Isfahan prison.

Ali Hashemi, an 18-year-old from the village of Sheshjovan in the Buin va Miandasht district of Isfahan Province, was arrested during the national revolution on 18 and 19 Dey 1404 (8 and 9 January 2026) and transferred to Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.

After months in detention, Ali Hashemi died in prison under suspicious circumstances on 29 Mordad 1405 (20 August 2026). His body was handed over to his family, and prison officials claimed the cause of death was "cardiac arrest." Ali was buried in the village of Sheshjovan.

According to information received, unofficial reports indicate that shortly before his death Ali was given an injection, after which he suffered the cardiac arrest.

The state murder of political prisoners inside the Islamic Republic's prisons has been reported repeatedly over the past 47 years.

In recent days, further cases of torture and abuse of political prisoners detained during the Lion and Sun National Revolution have been reported in various prisons of the Islamic Republic.
