Pledge of Seven Political Prisoners in Ahvaz: We Stand With Prince Reza Pahlavi Until Light Triumphs Over Darkness

Seven constitutionalist political prisoners held in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz declared in a statement that, until light triumphs over darkness, they will stand beside Prince Reza Pahlavi as the leader of the transition from the Islamic Republic to a free and democratic Iran.

The full text of the statement, issued under the title “The Pledge of the Group of Seven,” reads as follows:

“The Pledge of the Group of Seven, comprising seven constitutionalist political prisoners of Shiban Prison in Ahvaz.

In the name of Iran, with boundless greetings to the leadership of the transition.

Now, after five decades in which this darkness has cast its shadow and yielded nothing for this ancient land but the collapse of morality and social conduct, the spread and growth of corruption in every form — in deed, in thought and in word — and the destruction, plunder and pillage of the nation’s wealth and its worthy elites; while the occupying and avaricious rulers of this bountiful table, through hoarding gold and manufacturing terror, have given themselves over to the indulgence of every carnal appetite, to superstition and to self-worship, and by drowning in blood every call for freedom and justice have stained their hands with the pure blood of thousands of Iranians.

And yet you are a light of hope amid the gloom and the darkness, risen from an honoured house which, as history itself attests, desired nothing but love for Iran and Iranians and the dignity of the homeland. In these days of imprisonment and chains, we bear witness and we pledge that until light triumphs over darkness we shall be companions and helpers, shoulder to shoulder and step by step, on the path to the dignity of Iran and the return of her glory and greatness.

We know that any fear of death or deprivation will end in nothing but death and deprivation. Death — which has become the instrument by which these darkness-worshipping occupiers hold us in chains — is more fitting and more honourable than a life of humiliation and injustice. We are a great nation. We will take Iran back. Long live Iran! May the tricolour flag of the Lion and Sun fly high.
